Sri Lankan green pit viper (Craspedocephalus trigonocephalus)

The Green Pit Viper (Craspedocephalus trigonocephalus,  Sinhala: පළා පොළඟා) is a moderately venomous snake endemic to Sri Lanka. It is one of the most colorful and attractive snakes in Sri Lanka. This snake is normally arboreal and nocturnal.

Distribution: All three climatic zones (wet, dry, and intermediate) except the higher hills above an altitude of around 1200m.

Body description: Large and triangular head. Black lines on both sides of the head. Neck distinct. Stout body, medium-sized and thick. short, prehensile tail. Greenish body with a black variegated pattern (there are some exceptional individuals).
