Celebrating the Wonders of Nature

BigPicture, now in its 12th year, celebrates the amazing variety of life on Earth rather than only being a photography contest. The event motivates photographers to produce striking pictures that not only accentuate the beauty of our planet but also stimulate action to preserve it. Under the direction of eminent conservation photographer Suzi Eszterhas, the competition looks for excellent nature, animals, and photographs of conservation that will appeal to viewers and start conversations on environmental preservation.

Prize Details and Exhibition

Participants can win cash prizes and have their work exhibited at the prestigious California Academy of Sciences. This is an invaluable opportunity for photographers to gain recognition for their efforts and contribute to a greater cause.

Entry Fees

To enter the competition, photographers should note the following fees:

$25 for up to 10 single image submissions in any category.
$15 for each 6–8 image Photo Story submission.

Entrants can submit a maximum of 10 images per registered email address; there’s no limit to the number of email addresses one can register. Remember that payment must be processed on a secure web page using a major credit card to ensure eligibility. Please note that entry fees are non-refundable as they support the competition prizes and the Academy’s mission.

Important Dates

The competition officially opens at 12:00 AM PST on December 1, 2024, and remains open until 11:59 PM PST on March 1, 2025. Mark your calendars!

Eligibility Criteria

BigPicture is open to all photographers worldwide, with some exceptions. Unfortunately, employees, volunteers, Board Members of the Academy, and their immediate families cannot participate. The Academy reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants at their discretion.

This is a fantastic chance to engage with a community of like-minded individuals, showcase your work, and contribute to a meaningful cause. Make sure your images reflect the beauty and diversity of our world as you prepare your entries.
